Fox News published an article recently about Holocaust survivor. After 66 years, a Jewish Holocaust survivor has now been reunited with the family that helped save her. The Ruzy family, brother and sister (Egle and Aurimas Ruzy) reunited with Mary Katz Erlich who now lives in Massachusetts. The family risked their lives to hild Mary and her parents in their home. If the Ruzy family would have been caught, they would have lost their lives as well as the Mary's family. The Erlich and Ruzy families survived a total of three years living together in hiding. However, neighbors turned them in and they went to prison for more than six months before they were finally freed by the Soviets. The families have stayed in touch and they recently spent Thanksgiving with Erlich's daughter in the New York suburbs.
I thought that this article was very fascinating. I loved the story and how the families had kept in touch all of these years.
When I saw the title of this article, I had to read it. I was amazed and shocked to find out that the two families lived secretly together for three years without ever being caught until they were turned in by their neighbors. I was also thought that it was neat that it has been 66 years later and they were still keeping in touch. I cannot imagine living as these people did during the Holocaust. I have heard stories of the Holocaust, studied the Holocaust in my history classes, and even visited the Holocaust museum in Washington, D.C.. However, I still cannot even begin to wrap my mind around what it was like during that time. I cannot even imagine how much strength, bravery, and courage it took to help out families much like what the Ruzgy family did. Knowing that you, your family, and the family you are trying to save could die at any time would be an extremely stressful ordeal to have to endure. I am amazed and thankful for the countless number of individuals who lived during this harsh time in Germany. Their stories and lives will forever inspire me.
What do you think about this story? How do you feel about the Holocaust and the many individuals who endured this time in history?
