Fox News published an article recently about the Western Black Rhino of Africa. This particular rhino, native to Africa, has been declared officially extinct. A conservation group noted that not only are the Western Black Rhinos extinct, but other subspecies of rhioceros' are coming close to the same fate. The reason for the extinction of these animals or possible extinction is due to poachers killing the animals. A lack of political support and law enforcement are to blame for the poachers killing the animals. Crime groups are targeting rhinos for rhino horns and commercial poaching are the main threats. Efforts are underway to help keep these threatened animals alive.
I found this article very interesting. I do not keep up to date with what animals are in danger and what animals are not. Therefore, I was surprised to hear about this type of rhino.
This article caught my attention when I saw the picture that was advertising it. The picture above shows a rhino hanging from it's legs and being airlifted by a helicopter to a new, safe home. When I saw the picture I didn't know if the rhino was dead or if he was just tranquilized. After I read the article and the comment under the picture I found out that the rhino was being transported to a new and safe home away from poachers. I hear about different species of animals being placed on and off of the endangered species list periodically. I am glad that there are people who watch out for certain animals. I wouldn't want their job, but I think what they are doing is a good thing. I am not an environmentalist by any means. However, I do believe that God has allowed for us to live on this earth and we should do our best to take care of it. I think doing things like recycling, planting trees, and helping endangered animals are all great things. Yet, I am not an environmentalist or "tree-hugger." I just believe that we should do our best to be responsible for this world and earth that God has allowed for us to live on. By planting trees and recycling, we are not going to "save the earth." The only person who can save the earth is God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, we should do our best to be diligent and responsible with the gift that God has given us.
What do you think about animals like the Western Black Rhino being extinct? Do you think we should take care of our earth or do you not care?
I don't like the fact that it is now extinct, however I would laugh if there is somewhere that all the "extinct" animals are that no one knows about.
